Sunday, February 27, 10:30 a.m. “Paths to God: An Appreciation of Hinduism” Rev. Lara Hoke will lead us in thinking together about Sanatana Dharma, otherwise known to many of us as Hinduism. Hinduism isthe third-largest religion in the world, and the most ancient of the scripturally based religions. But how much do we know about it? What might this rich religious tradition offer to us as Unitarian Universalists? The service will include a special guest, John V. Calabria, leading us in kirtan, or devotional call-andresponsesinging which is popular in some Indian religious traditions (including among some Hindus). Please join us!

About 370 UU ministers will come together for this training. We will be broken into several different seminars. My seminar topic is “Cultural Change”. Hopefully, this training will increase my intercultural competency, and I plan to share some of my learnings with you during the rest of this congregational year.
Continuing education is considered very important for UU ministers. Of course, continuing education is important for everyone. Continuing to learn and grow is one of the things that makes life worth living, and one of the things that will make our world better. It makes me think of the Third Principle of Unitarian Universalism, which is affirming and promoting “acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations”. As we move ever deeper into the 21st century, acceptance of each across all kinds of diversity and difference will be more important than ever. And spiritual growth can be one of many fruits from this process. (more…)
